Quick question:

Why does Guilty Pleasures take Marvel 12 issues to adapt but Pride and Prejudice only takes five?

Also, why do all of the Bennet sisters have that Greg Land-esque "please jizz in my mouth" face? Hell, Mrs. Bennet kind of has it. Ew.

Also, that shouldn't bother me more than the horrible, condescending cover but it does.

You know, I was tempted to check out Marvel's Wizard of Oz adaptation at Borders just yesterday.

But then, it is just the same old story. And the Emerald City was such a cop-out design in a "let's make it really simple but EXAGGERATE its proportions because it'll be cartoony!!!" sort of way. ¦X

Answer: Because Guilty Pleasures will net the company seven times the revenue.

After all, how many sexy vampires are in Pride and Prejudice? At least this version has zombies going for it.

My guess is that Marvel is trying to bring more women in through hot vampire action instead of strong, social commentary via the classic novel.

And also because Land works only from porn.

I don't know if the sales of GP were THAT good, but they're good enough that they're dragging out The Laughing Corpse over at least two mini-series, so that's something.

I thought the TwiMoms said they liked Edward because he was like Mr. Darcy. I don't know how this is, but ...

I love how you're like "I'm above this!" but you have to look at the Emerald City anyway.

Actually, from what I've heard the Anita Blake comic is really low on visual action. (I think I had a rant about this before.) And the sex isn't going to happen until Book Six so that's ... hold on. [calculates] That's at least 50 issues away.

*shrug* the character designs were somewhat promising so I kept flipping through it. But that's $4.25 Marvel isn't getting from MY wallet. ¯^¯*

The art has that 'traced from a photo and colored with photoshop, MAKING LIBERAL USE OF DODGE/BURN' look that Land's stuff tends to have, too.

The cover makes me a sad panda.

I hate that shit so much. It makes everything look generic to the point where it seems like the characters aren't even interacting with each other.

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2009-04-21 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I read the first issue and was so very, very disappointed. They stripped all the Austen from it, and left us with a period romcom.

[identity profile] scarlet-carsons.livejournal.com 2009-04-21 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Fff, yes. The art might've worked with different coloring, but the whole 'half-assed photoshop' look only seems to work when the linework is more cartoony.

I don't know why some comics can't just be left in black and white, man. :(

Well, from experience I can say that many attention-starved geek collectors made sure the bookstore saved copies of GP for them and they picked them up religiously. I never had anyone even ask for P&P comics. According LKH, sales have been good.

As far as TwiMoms... Oh, dear. Edward is an immoral homicidal sociopath bounty hunter. = Mr. Darcy? Personally, I don't think so.

[identity profile] quietprofanity.livejournal.com 2009-04-21 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Edward Cullen, not THAT Edward. :)

[identity profile] quietprofanity.livejournal.com 2009-04-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's where I found it, actually. (I'm pretty unoriginal.) I loved that comic.

[identity profile] quietprofanity.livejournal.com 2009-04-21 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I'm not sure who they were thinking of making it for -- the fan reception is poor and it doesn't seem to have much non-fan appeal.

[identity profile] imayb1.livejournal.com 2009-04-21 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
OH. Well, that makes a lot more sense. ^_^;

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Er, maybe it was a case of their having the rights, and figuring they might as well do something with them?

It's hardly an inspired project.

[identity profile] summersdaughter.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the only thing I could think when I saw the sample pages was "why do they all look generic-comicbook-babe-sexy?"

Even the really young ones? Arrrghhh.

It's been a loooooong while since I read the book and I barely remember it but some of those girls are like, 12, aren't they?
