I can't believe it ... [A Thanksgiving story]

So, my little girl cousins like Twilight. This doesn't surprise me.

But, apparently one of my aunts gave Twilight to my Nana (step-grandmother) and said, "Can you read this and see if it's appropriate?"

And she read it, and then she gave it to Pop (paternal grandfather).

Pop and Nana LOVE TWILIGHT.

My grandfather LOVES Twilight.

My hardcore sci-fi-loving, Isaac-Asimov-is-the-greatest-writer-ever, Ursula-K.-LeGuin-isn't-real-sci-fi grandfather LOVES Twilight.

I didn't know how to react to this.

So I let him borrow my copies of Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton, Bitten by Kelley Armstrong and The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. He seemed really glad to have them.

But ... just ... wow, dude.

I KNOW BUT IT IS REALLY WEIRD TO DO THAT ON YOUR CHILDHOOD STREETS.

BUT MAYBE IT IS REQUIRED!

BUT THEY ALL LOVE IT UNIRONICALLY! PERHAPS THE WHOLE WORLD HAS GONE MAD!

I am trying to work out HOW he found it awesome. He IS a weird guy. On the one hand he reads Catholic scholars (also he has a personal catalogue of all Catholic heretics) and lots of history books and lots of classical literature so long as it's not too depressing like Thomas Hardy. On the other hand, he won't watch art films but likes B to Z-grade monster movie films and watches all the CSI spin-offs.

So he's got loves among the sublime AND the cheesy. Maybe it was a perfect storm ...

By the way, he's already done with the first Anita Blake book and totally loved it. And CoM, but he didn't like that very much.
