This worries me ...

RiffTrax is doing Twilight.

From the preview:

RiffTrax was caught up in the Twilight frenzy, and not surprisingly, given that we are staffed almost exclusively by 13 year-old girls. So when we heard rumors of the feature film—the whispers of John Goodman being cast as Edward were especially worrying—we sent so many texts beginning "OMG!!!1!!!!11!!" we nearly shut down our SMS service. At the movie's premiere we were there among the throngs, shrieking with girlish glee when Robert Pattinson got out of his limo (it turns out we had mistakenly gone to the premiere of The Changeling and were actually shrieking for John Malkovich, but the point still stands.) And when it was finally released on DVD we ruined our first three copies by hugging them too much.

This is not allaying my fears that the RiffTrax is going to be "HAW-HAW! Teen girls are so stupid" now. Especially since the RiffTrax is going to be all-guys. I also hated the "'I don't have ...' 'a wang.'" joke. Other bits were funny, but ehhhh ... I hope it doesn't turn into something like this. (And I feel like I'm the only person who hated the latter, as well.)

As a fan of their work, I've seen both good and bad Rifftrax. It all depends if there's enough stuff in the film to work with so that they can spin some good jokes. I'm expecting tons of vampire jokes/pun and high school jokes for Twilight.

Both the LotR and Star Wars Rifftrax started out pretty good, but towards the end (with the final films) they sort of ran out of ideas. There's only so many jokes you can make about the same things.

I hope they do Watchmen -- there's tons of grist for the mill in there. And it would be awesome if they'd invite James Lileks back for that one (he's a huge comic book fan and did a great joke on Spiderman 3 Rifftrax).

Did a great JOB on Spiderman 3, I mean. I was suprised honestly, but then again I'd forgotten that Lileks created the Institute of Good Cheer website (lileks.com). Ahhhh...Art Frahm and the hideous interior decor sections. :)

Yeah, I just hope the overall message that'll come across is "Twilight is worthy of mockery because it is" not "Twilight is worthy of mockery because teen girls like it" you know? And yeah, I'm hoping for some great vampire jokes, too.

I'd also love to see a Watchmen RiffTrax. I agree, James Lileks did a good job with Spider-Man 3. (Even if my favorite RiffTrax remains Eragon.)

I've seen the Rifftrax guys make jokes about women liking girly men (in reference to Legolas in LotR -- they'd make at least a couple of jokes like this during each film, usually when Legolas first appears).
