So, I've been reading a bit of slash again lately. I also recently read Rapture Ready! Adventures in the Parallel Universe of Christian Pop Culture by Daniel Radosh, which is basically about how a secular Jewish guy from New York went to Christian bookstores, Christian rock concerts, Christian rave halls, Christian abstinence seminars, Christian comedy conventions, a Hell House reproduction etc. etc. It's a great book that deserves a longer review, but one of the big messages that Radosh came away with is, "Christian rock doesn't have to suck." He even has a list Ten Great Christian Rock Songs.

I liked all of these songs. Maybe that's not so surprising. My favorite band is Lifehouse, which I'm sure has some "Repent, heathenous Jew! Abandon your gay friends!" messages when you play it backwards. But one of the songs totally blew me away. It's called "Rapture" by a band called Pedro the Lion. Actually, it's more like by a guy named David Bazan. Pedro the Lion seems a lot like what Tom Reynolds called "brainchild" bands. In which the band is really one guy who does everything himself, only has his other members around for tours and in reality quite hates them and whines that his mainstream label Christian gatekeepers are stifling him and leaves the business in anger. See Trent Reznor/NIN and VAST/that guy from VAST for secular examples.

Anyway, the song ... right. It's awesome. It's about an extramarital affair.

I love this song a lot. And, in a way that's totally inappropriate, I like to listen to it when I read slash. Also, it warped in my head and made me think that this was the song played during the sex scene in Zack and Miri Make a Porno. But that's not so! It's actually this song:
