So, have you heard of my favorite toilet book? I Hate Myself and Want to Die: The 52 Most Depressing Songs You Ever Heard. No, of course you haven't. But it's funny, and so is the author's article about submitting it to the British libel lawyers? The complaints are special.

Favorite one:
The reader is told "if you cross Brian Wilson with Bram Stoker and add more voices in the head, you have Jim Steinman." Is Mr. Steinman clinically insane and is there evidence of this?

I also like this response.

In relation to Whitney Houston, is it true and is there evidence that she had stints in rehab?

Reynolds' response: This is like being asked for evidence that Brad Pitt has ever met Angelina Jolie.

Heh-heh-heh.

The funny thing is, I've actually heard of that book. I saw it at one of the bookstores in the mall. It looks pretty cool, too, but I didn't buy it. What's your favorite so far?

My favorite review, you mean? Oooh ... that's tough. I'm tempted to say "The Shortest Story" by Harry Chapin because of Reynolds' sad tale of having to play it at a Lutheran Church on Christmas. But I like his eviscerations of "Goodbye to Love" by The Carpenters and "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. I think my favorite individual line might be when he says "Lars Ulrich starts banging wildly on the drums [on "One"] like he's just heard about Napster."

But the one I agree with the most is definitely "The Christmas Shoes" by Newsong.

The Christmas Shoes is terribly angsty. That is the kind of song that makes you want to kill yourself. At least the first few times, then you're just like "Aaaagh" every time it comes on the radio.

That song is like an evil roach-demon that wants to rip open my tear ducts without trying to touch my heart, especially when it gets into the children's chorus. Bathos, yaaaaaay!!!

Still, it's weakness is that the plot of the song falls apart when you think about it.
