I have a new favorite Harry Potter book now. You had a good run, The Prisoner of Azkaban.

That book was ... awesome. It was violent and upsetting and all that Blood Ocean stuff ... but I loved it. It really did feel like a fitting end to a series. Its references to the older books were well done and didn't feel like some sort of "Hey! Did you pay attention to a vague detail we hid in book four? No? SUCKERS!" It did feel like all of the former books led up to this one. So, yeah, happy with the ending.

And was Voldemort not fucking scary? Voldemort was scary. I ... er, my brother Mark totally let out a little yell when he first attacked the multiple Potters. Yeah ... my brother yelled. That's right. But anyway, Voldemort always seemed like a sort of shadowy "Grr! I am evil! Fear me, grr!" character. In this he really did seem like the ultimate Armeggedon.

Kind of stupid for a main villain, still, in the end. But definitely a scary dude.

Um ... Lily/Snape, yay! ... I'm serious. (Speaking of which, I did think Snape was good, but ... didn't quite picture it ending up the way it did.) I ended up liking all the background stuff anyway, especially about Dumbledore. In some ways, it's been kind of neat to see Harry have to come face to face with the imperfections of his idols. So, that was very cool.

Also, Dumbledore's last line to Harry ... I think that's my favorite line in the book.

I'm not that upset over any of the deaths. None of them were really my favorite characters. But then again, I'm a heartless bitch who shrugged when Cedric died.

And yay, Neville! I figured a lot of us thought it would happen but ... heh. I also liked how they ultimately solved the question of the Hallows.

Also am pleased Mr. Leather Pants turned into a balding old goat. Oh, and that some Slytherins did end up fighting Voldemort. I didn't like to think of Slughorn going bad.

Okay, what I didn't like:
1.) Ron/Hermione - Ugh. But I had braced myself. I'm also kind of upset he didn't become less of a jerk in the flash-forward. Moving on.
2.) Ginny - I don't mind Harry and Ginny but I am rather annoyed that Ginny wouldn't have a sore spot for a guy who basically hid her for her own protection after she'd already come face to face in the second book ... oh well, whatever.
3.) I can't believe Rowling never threw a word in to what happened to Hermione's parents, because I thought what she did to them was really cruel. Yes, it's understandable in a "for the greater good" way, but I would have liked to have seen her get chewed out by them for what she did ... or at least have some answer ... I don't want to think of them still in Australia.

Oh heck. I'm going to believe that she retrieved them from Australia after the battle and when they heard what she did, they looked at her sadly and told her that they never wanted to speak to her again. However, they came back and worked it out sometime after the birth of her first child, although their relationship was always strained. There. Now I don't have to read fanfic.

And ... um, that's all I have to say. Now I'll go read what you all think.

By the way, Weird Al: The answer is 704. I don't know what Lindsey Lohan's deal is, but given the reviews for her new movie, it can't be anything good.

I was a bit thrown for a loop when I read about Hermione sending her family away. That was just 'whoa, you don't do that'. I can't believe they didn't fix that. If I were her folks, I'd totally be pissed. But, I'm sure she would have just magicked away their memory of that too so she wouldn't get into trouble.
