The main character is wonderful and virtuous and whimsical and her dad hates her so much he mocks her when she reads Shakespeare and WON'T LET HER HAVE BIRTHDAYS!!!!!!!

This is going to hurt, yo.

I'm actually in the middle of this one right now and I'm loving it. I always try to read the book before I see the movie - because the movies usually suck in comparison.

This will actually be my second made-into-a-movie book I'm reading this year after Choke (which was decent, but I've grown seriously, seriously disillusioned with Chuck Palahniuk.) I do like to read the book first, but sometimes the movie can act as a good commercial. (I mooched Brick Lane because of the recent movie, for instance.)

The only thing I've ever read by Chuck Palahniuk is Guts, which probably should have disturbed me more than it did.

I only read a synopsis of "Guts", but feel confident in saying that William S. Burroughs could wipe the floor with Palahniuk's poser macho gay provocateur* ass.

(*I say that because Burroughs was all of these things, including gay, but better.)
