Times like these I am so regretful I didn't make Laurie post taking Veidt's leg to the stomach, because that is how I feel right now.

Jesus Christ, the home computer is fucked. Windows Explorer won't work. Sometimes IE pops up every two minutes. Facebook won't work. Gmail chat won't work. Most webpages are slow. And my computer-fu is not so good but with Mom's only other options seem to be putting up with it or talking to my grandfather, who thinks the answer to every computer problem is either "defragment it" or "you didn't defragment it enough, so buy a new one."

The IE problem is very similar to whats up with Vundo - it's a bitch to get rid of but it's been widespread since it's being served through flash banner ads. Might wanna run a scan for it, but the IE popping up thing is the big symptom.

I think that's what we might have had. One problem with my Mom's computer is she had two disabled virus protectors running on her computer (McAfee and AVG), so I've spent tonight and this morning getting rid of them and installing CA, which she can pay for through her Internet provider Cablevision.

I seem to have mostly fixed the computer by this point, although the startup keeps asking about a now-deleted virus, so now I'm trying to get rid of that alert.
